Before the scholarship is awarded, the family and educational background of each candidate will be verified. To qualify for the award, the monthly family income should be less than Rs.2500 ($35) and should be certified by the Gramasevaka. A letter from the school principal about the candidate's performance (grades) and conduct is also necessary. A recommendation letter from the candidate's religious organization (temple, church etc.) will considered an added advantage in the selection process.
After the selection process is completed, the sponsor is free to select the recipient(s) of his/her choice (each recipient's photograph and all details are made available to the sponsor) The sponsor may name the scholarship in memory of a loved one or anyone else of his/her choice. Sponsors sponsoring more than one child are entitled to name each scholarship fund with a different name.
A sponsor is required to deposit a lump sum of US$750.00 per child. This amount is deposited in a bank where high interest rate is paid. The monthly interest for $750 would be about Rs.500. you may also sponsor a child a for a period of a year by donating $100.00. Each recipient will receive these funds on a monthly basis, directly from the bank. Once a year, the recipient's academic performance will be verified for the continuation of the funds for the next school year. If the academic performance is not up to standard,the scholarship will be discontinued and will be awarded to another eligible candidate with the permission of the sponsor.
Scholarship funds will be awarded until the recipient completes his/her school/university education. The funds will be used for buying school books, school supplies, school uniforms, shoes and other accessories if necessary, and also will provide for travel expenses.
